As the very 1st vaccine for the coronavirus has been approved for use in the united states.

The focus now shifts to the distribution and administration of this vaccine from coast-to-coast.

News 10's dominic miranda spoke with a c-v-s representative today.

He joins us now live in our newsroom for more on how vaccine distribution will work.

Cvs is going to play a huge role in vaccine distribution across the country.

More than 40 thousand facilities have selected cvs as their vaccination partner.

However..

It's largely up to each individual state to figure out who shoud receive the limited supply of the vaccine and how.

[take pkg incue: residents and workers outcue: *bite* with the cdc duration:1:08] pk} residents and workers at long term care facilities remain the top priority... and are likely the first who will receive the covid-19 vaccine..

When covid-19 vaccines are available for wider distibution... it will be offered at at all c-v-s pharmacy locations.

The representative i talked with today made note that they will have the capacity to administer 20 to 25 million shots every month when that time comes.

Vaccinations will also be by appointment only for c-v-s pharmacies.

The bottom line from what i was told... c-v-s is prepared to play a critical role in the vaccination process.

Chief medical officer for c-v-s- health dr. troy brennan recently interviewed with c-n-n about vaccine distribution.

He spoke about the work that goes into something like this.

"it includes making key decisions within the states about who essential workers are and decisions about how we are going to check for morbidity for those individuals who are under the age of 65 who should be getting the vaccine early.

So there are a lot of details to work out with the states, but that's the way our system works.

States make these decisions on a public health basis in close consultation with the c-d-c.

Now in addition to all this... c-v-s health is hiring 700 licensed pharmacy technicians throughout indiana to assist in the massive covid-19 effort.

So aside from contributing to the national pandemic response... there's also a new pathway into the healthcare field for hoosiers seeking jobs.
