Tonight - mayor tommy battle kicked off the 12th annual "tinsel trail" with the officia lighting ceremony.
Over 300 specially themed trees are decorated and placed around big spring park in downtown huntsville.
One family told us - coming to the official lighting ceremony was a great way to start the holiday season.
Mercedes bynum: "it's awesome, it's a great atmosphere.
There's lots of trees, there's a lot of different characters and stuff for the kids to look at."
Daniel bynum: "yup.
Feeding the ducks, the trees, the lights, the kids love it."
