Right around the corner and many folks are already preparing those holiday meals.

Fire experts want everyone to be mindful of how to stay safe in the kitchen.

According to the national fire protection association, more home fires happen on thanksgiving than any other day of the year.

Fire safety experts are asking everyone to stay in the kitchen while you are cooking anything especially on the stove.

Keep your children away from stove tops and out of the kitchen while there is hot equipment around.

Make sure all your smoke alarms are working.

And if a fire does end up breaking out in your house, don't try to throw the pan outside or dispose of the fire yourself.

And the skillet.

Turn off the burner whether it be gas or electric and then try to worry about trying to cool of the gas and the skillet."

Rosenhan said don't put out a grease fire with water.

He says the best thing to do is smother the fire with a non- flammable blanket.
