The Pandemic Is Taking A Toll On Everyone, Including Seniors With Depression

The novel coronavirus pandemic is having an enormous impact on the mental health of America's senior citizens.

Now, a nationwide survey reveals more than 60% of seniors with depression in the United States won't seek treatment for their condition.

UPI reports genetic testing company Myriad Neuroscience says one-third of 1500 adults 65 and older surveyed believe they can 'snap out' of it on their own.

The 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' mindset of some seniors and reluctance to talk about mental health are hindering them from getting the help they need.

Dr. Mark Pollack Chief medical officer, Myriad Neuroscience Among the older respondents, 30% described depression as a normal part of aging.

One in three said the symptoms affected aspects of their lives, and one in four said the condition impacts their overall health.
