McKenzie Community Track & Field, a local non-profit organization, is awaiting approval from Lane County to make their facility a local RV campground site.

Secure.

With the help and support of the community, united way has been able to raise more than 800 thousand dollars in wildfire response funds.

Kezi 9 news reporter kate rogerson shows you how one local non-profit is planning on using these funds.

Mckenzie community track and field is a non profit organization that oversees the use of the mckenzie track.

It's a 1.8 million dollar, world-class facility that's in the process of becoming a new home of sorts for mckenzie school staff, students and families.

"given the circumstances we're one fourth mile from the school.

We're a very logical location."

George letchworth, treasuerer of mctf, says the idea is to convert the 20 acre venue into an rv community where people have a place to stay, to learn and feel a sense of togetherness as the winter approaches.

"we're going to be pretty narrowly focused on supporting staff and familes that are connected with the mckenzie schools.

And that will probably fill us up."

(bridge) being a non-profit, volunteer organization, mckenzie community track and field has been given a 10 thousand dollar grant from united way.

Jared prusch from united way says relief funds are given to local community partners who can respond and provide quickly during times of devastation and crisis.

"related to the fire, the track has pivoted really quickly to try and meet the emerging needs of the community."

The track is still waiting for final approval from lane county to create the rv community.
