GETTING READY FOR BASIC TRAINING

Training for the army this week.

But as news channel two's gary liberatore shows us...her journey is making history.

"there are those that see the challenges of a nation and say....send me....."

One of those very brave people is 19- year-old braelyn riesel of westmoreland (braelyn reisel, u.s. army recruit) tc : 20:04 "i wanted to join the military for a very long time, my brother is in it, hes in the army."

And just like her brother...she is going in the infantry... (sgt.

First class paul gardner, station commander, rome recruiting station) tc : 24:47 "we are such a society where people are always saying when i cant do things, women can do anything they set their mind to.

Ive worked with women throughout the combat arms world and theyre a lot stronger than some of the guys ive seen so its pretty exciting to see a young lady get into it and push her self and see how far she can go sgt.

First class paul gardner is the station commander at the rome recruiting station...and says braelyn is teh first female rom our area to ever enter directly into the u.s. army infantry through this recruiting station.

Tc : 20:38 "its pretty awesome, i may not want to, ive always wanted to do infantry but a lot of people are like oh you cant do that."

Oh yes she can... in december of 2015, defense secretary ash carter stated that starting in 2016 all combat jobs would open to women..and in october of 20166 the first ten women graduated from the united states army's infantry basic officer leader's course at fort benning, georgia...which is where braelyn reising is headed.

Tc : 27:15 "basic training is designed to be hard, its not easy."

Once riesel competes 10 weeks of basic training and then 12 weeks of infantry training at fort benning..she will joins the ranks of only about 600 women in the entire country to have made it througth that training to fight on the front lines.

Tc : 23:39 "i want other women to do this because we can, youre stronger than you think, you can do it."

Thefs she is ready tget her mitary care started at theyoungf watching a vids, if i didntwatct than i thought."he videos will become real life quickly...as riesel ships out in the next couple of days.

Braeylyn, thank you for your service.
