Braelynn Riesel of Westmoreland is the first woman from the area to directly join the Army infantry.

And as newschannel two's gary liberatore shows us.... her journey is making history.

One of those very brave people is 19- year-old braelyn riesel of westmoreland (braelyn reisel, u.s. army recruit) .

Ive worked with women throughout the combat arms world and theyre a lot stronger than some of the guys ive seen so its pretty exciting to see a young lady get into it and push her self and see how far she can go sgt.

First class paul gardner is the station commander at the rome recruiting station... and says braelyn is the first female from our area to ever enter directly into the u.s.arms recruiting station.

Once riesel competes 10 weeks of basic training and then 12 weeks of infantry training at fort benning... she will joins the ranks of only about 600 women in the entire country to have made it througth that training to fight on the front lines.

Drum's 10th mountain division were deployed to the front lines in afghanistan... just six months ago... in march.

Riesel says she is ready to get her military career started at the young age of 19.

Tc : 21:38 "were doing a lot of exercise and ive been doing a lot of watching a videos, if i didnt watch any videos i wouldve just walked into this and been like oh, this is different than i thought."

The videos will become real life quickly... as riesel ships out in the next couple of days.
