Local beach closes after difficult covid season

Today was the last day to swim at thetown.

It's been a unique...and in many ways...a difficult summer season up north....but life was definitely good...at the beach!

News channel tw's gary liberatore has more.

In a world where many things did not open this summer....one thing people could count on since june 15th is...the town of webb public beach was open for swimming.

(ryane martino, east syracuse resident) .

None .

None tc : 37:58 "it kind of makes things feel like normal and it's nice that teh beach was able to stay open and for people to access it as long as people are able to you know."

The woman who runs the beach couldnt agree more... (jackie englert, town of webb recreation, camp & beach director) tc : 21:33 "it's been fabulous, beautiful weather has helped and we've just had a large amount of people coming to the beach every day and enjoying themselves."

There were some rules to follow.... (nick olsen, town of webb public beach lifeguard) tc : 28:28 "i think it was really great considering all of the circumstances.

We definietly had some different rules and regulations that we had to follow."

Tc : 31:32 "it adds a level of responsibility, especially with covid and everything and i think as someone who is maturing and growing and getting older, i've been able to learn a lot about health and keeping peole safe in other ways than just saving them if they're drowning."

There were no activities on the beach...like playing catch or bumping the volleyball..and of course there were these pods...some may call them covid pods... tc : 22:50 "they're 8 foot pods and they're 10 feet apart so that ensures social distancing and it gives people a visual and a comfort level."

Pods...jackie and everyone else hopes wont be back next year... tc : 26:38 "i'm hoping we go back to our normalcy plan, if not, i do think we're able to move forwar with, if there's covid next year with the same plan., and if it's something in between, we'll be able to tweak what we've been doing."
