We have an update tonight on that big re-build project at douglas high school in winston.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held today& to celebrate their work so far.
Kezi 9 news reporter evita garza shows us why this ceremony meant so much to the high school community.
Evita:?even though very few people were allowed to come to the ground breaking ceremony today due to covid-19, those who did come told me it needed to happened... because it a representation of all the hard work that went into getting this project started?
It almost been three weeks since demolition began here at douglas high school& the upper building is completely gone and the foundation has been put down for their brand- new gym.
But vice board chair brian west says they planned this ceremony because of what this project means to the community.

Just over a year ago, voters in the winston dillard school district passed that 16 million dollar bond to rebuild parts of the high school.
That will include 10 new classrooms, a new cafeteria and their gym.
West says he excited to see these plans come to life& because it needed now more than ever.?we can actually be able to facilitate the things that the kids would like to have and the kids need to have?
The project is going to cost 20 million in total.
The other 4 million is coming from the state.
