As we mentioned -- we're learning more about huntsville city schools plan for this year.

Waay31's megan reyna joins us live outside huntsville city schools central office.

She breaks down the protocols -- and shares how some parents feel about the school year?

If students do come back to the classroom after those first nine weeks -- there are several new procedures we now know about -- specifically surrounding health.

However -- i spoke to several parents tonight who -- despite these new protocols have their minds made up.

Laster says:"i want to keep my son safe, so yes, he's staying at home and doing his work."

Pertha laster's 13-year-old boy will stay home all year and learn virtually.

She says it's not worth taking the risk and exposing him.

Laster says:"i think that's the best thing to do, and hopefully, i pray, that this ends soon."

But unfortunately laster knows as of right now -- there's no end in sight for when this pandemic may end.

And in preparation -- huntsville city schools has plans in place if students do come back to the classroom and they are exposed to coronavirus.

If a student or staff tests positive -- the principal of that school will close off all the areas the student was in.

It will then be disinfected.

Students and staff with potential exposure will be notified by school cast.

The district is relying on the alabama department of public health's guidance whether or not to close an entire school down due to a positive case.

If a school does shut down -- students will pick up virtual learning again.

The plan states, however -- essential staff will report in- person.

Mos says:"i really don't want my kid going to school this school year."

Still -- some parents are concerned about the possibility of an outbreak.

Mos says:"if one child catches it, it's just going to be tragic for the entire classroom."

But there are parents who want their kids in the classroom setting now.

Cunningham says:"the social interaction our son needs is important" aaron cunningham's kids was set to begin kindergarten at blossomwood elementary.

However -- right when the district announced the 9 week virtual start -- he chose to enroll him in private school since both he and his wife work full-time.

But cunningham doesn't fault the district.

Cunningham says:"we were able to make the decision because they were being transparent."

Now i asked the district tonight if these more in-depth plans were made public as a result of parents' concerns.

But i learned from a spokesperson they were already in the works and set to be released.
