We are less than a month away from the first day of classes for many schools in butte county.

But what will that look like if the county is still on the watchlist.

Esteban you spoke with teachers and the school board - where do things stand?

The chico unified school board is complying with the state's guidelines.

Some teachers however, are worried for the students and parents this effects the most.

"i think in a lot of ways it's not fair to the parents and the kids.

I mostly worry about the families and how it effects them and how it effects kids and their learning and their needs."

Mark pisenti is a teacher at durham high school which means for now, he'll have to teach from home, but with that he says comes problems. "it has a baby of problems that are going to be difficult i think for many people.

Technology issues, internet access, technology access."

However, pisenti is optimistic that within the school year, students will return to campus.

"maybe we can look at going back to in school session, i still think going back to school is the best solution."

And the school board is just as hopeful "assuming that we'll go between stage 1 and 2 throughout the semester, they'll continue to use that online as a basis for their lessons only because there's a danger we might slide back into stage 1 again which means complete online at home instruction."

Chico unified originally created a plan for stage 2 allowing for on- campus distant learning, but with butte county now on the watchlist -- "we will be teaching online, stage 1 which is looks like we're going to do."

But the difference between the first shutdown and this time around is that this time, the teachers can be prepared for it.

"we've been doing a lot of training, we will do a lot more training before school starts.

And our goal is to have all of our teachers trained on our online curriculum."
