First responders expecting a busy 4th of July weekend.

As law enforcement expects an increase in complaint calls, State fire officials are urging those that do use fireworks to be safe.

City of utica have increased.

Today...the department's spokesperson spoke to newschannel 2's brent kearney about their expectations for this weekend.

Nats utica police say they're going to have their eyes and ears open, as the department prepares for an increase in fireworks complaint calls.

None "we certainly hope everyone enjoys it.

We will probably have some emergency calls that we will respond to in addition to the fireworks calls.

We will certainly get to the calls as quick as we can.

Obviously if their is something of an emergent nature in relation to the fireworks we will try and get to that and respond to each and every call that we're sent to."

It's already been a busy month for the department.

Neighbors calling the department complaining about the noise "during the day it doesn't bother you, but its 1 or 2 o clock in the morning when they're lighting them off."

"one its a quality of life complaint, 2 its affects pets, its obviously affecting them.

Also affecting people with mental health things of that nature."

The oneida county sheriff's office and utica police making it clear this week, their are penalties if you're caught with illegal fire works.

"those that possess illegal fireworks such as these to my right, that's not going to be tolerated here in our community.

The sheriff's office is committed to doing what we can to remove these illegal devices from our community."

"the sale of illegal fireworks is a b misdemeanor and the mere possession of fireworks is a violation.

We are addressing and putting our most stringent concerns out proactive patrols things of that nature to try and address any and all fireworks calls."
