Hartwick College makes reopening plan

Hartwick College expects to be included in Phase 4 of reopening, and has prepared to put new safety guidelines in place in accordance with state requirements.

Issued guidance for reopening colleges... hartwick college has announced students will return to campus this fall.

News channel 2's caitlin irla joins us live here in the studio to tell us about the reopening plan.

Education will remain in phase 4.

So colleges in the mohawk valley can start preparing their reopening plans.... which need to address all of the guidance that has been provided by the state.

None 2:15;09 "i'm very pleased to say, that now having has the opportunity to review the guidance, our restart plan is in very, very good shape."

2:23;27 the president of hartwick college says she has been preparing their plans for the past few months.

This week - about 50 employees have returned to campus and they will slowly bring back more employees throughout this summer.

This is all in preparation for students returning in the fall.

:55;29 "this is very important because it gives us an opportunity to tests our system.

Our systems for screening and density reduction and sanitization, symptom identification through screening and even contact tracing if necessary."

01:12;08 she says the decision to bring students back to campus is based on feedback from students.

4:44;29 5:08;16 "our decision to reopen rather than to remain remote is really built on our foundational belief that this is the best way to learn, that when you place eager students in the presence of career educators, who are really dedicated to helping them shape their future, that's when the magic happens."

When they reopen, every student and employee will review and sign a document called "our social compact: a healthy hartwick college."

"this compact will help each one of us to understand and hold one another accountable for our commitment to being an educational community."

> once hartwick college submits their full reopening plan to the state... they will release all of the details to the community as well.

Students will begin their return on august 22nd.

Classes will start august 31st.
