The bibb county school district is offering a virtual learning option for the upcoming school year.

This program is for parents who would like their child to receive the curriculum from home.

So families who choose the remote learning option, must have internet access at home.

If not, parents can request a device from the child's school.

Assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, dr. tanzy kilcrease (tan-zee) , says the program will be first come first served.

"they will have to come up to the school during open house at the very beginning of the year to check it out and there will be some requirements, an agreement for them to sign saying they will take care of that device and return it" in a letter to parents--kilcrease says --the new virtual option will run for at least one semester.

She says after that, if parents feel comfortable, students can go back for in person learning the second semester.

According to dr. kilcrease, parents must register their child for the program by july 8th.

She says the virtual curriculum will be taught by a certified bibb county teacher with live instruction.

"so if they dont understand something they can always refer their questions to that designated teacher" dr. kilcrease explains she wants parents and students to take the remote option seriously.

She says unlike the e-learning program-- grades and attendance count towards a students overall performance and scores.

"the rigor will be there just like its face to face instruction" any student that is not registered for the online c1 3 b13 program, is expected to attend the first day
