Nightlife remains closed in Bangkok despite lockdown restrictions easing

Thailand's famous Soi Cowboy alleyway of gogo bars and strip clubs remained closed today as the country continues to enforce coronavirus restrictions of high-risk businesses.

Footage shows how many of the venues have chains across the entrances, some have closed for good and fallen into a state of disrepair while others are being renovated.

Health officials have recorded no new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19 in almost a month, leading to thousands of business re-opening as preventative measures are eased.

Residents are forced to wear face masks and use tracking app in public buildings.

However, nightlife in Bangkok and all other cities remains closed.

Bars, nightclubs, hostess clubs and 'soapy massage' venues have been prevented from resuming business due to the close contact involved between staff and customers.

Ministers have not signalled when the businesses, one of the key parts of the country's tourism industry, can re-open.
