A sobering center is coming to roseburg this fall&and it will act as an alternative to jail time for those who get arrested for intoxication in douglas county.

Kezi 9 news reporter evita garza shows us how this project is being funded.

But, in a few short months, it will be douglas county first sobering center&a place where dozens of intoxicated suspects can sober up instead of going to jail.

The project is being led by adapt, an organization that helps people with drug addiction and behavioral health.

Adapt chief executive officer greg brigham says this is a way to keep the jails less crowded and put people on the right track to recovery.

Phoner:?we want to keep them safe and keep the community safe, while we engage them in other services that would prevent the likelihood of reoccurrence?

He says they have all the funds needed to open the facility& but, theye still struggling to find the money to keep things operating.

00:50 evita:?after paying 750 thousand dollars for this abandoned property, leaders at adapt say they need 350 thousand to keep the facility running 24/7.

But brigham says he confident theyl secure those funds?

The entire project was funded by community governments and organizations.

For example, roseburg, winston, myrtle creek, sutherlin and douglas county governments already pleged 220 thousand dollars a year.?we are trying to get to that 350,000 mark annually through other local participants?

In the meantime, many people i spoke to said they hope it works out for adapt.?anything that would focus on helping them get through that and off that road?

They say this community needs this now more than ever.
