Opelousas Officer Turns Himself in for Allegedly Beating Up an 18-Year-Old Hospital Patient in 2019

Race is at the center of an incident of alleged brutality from a police officer in opelousas.an opelousas police officer has turned himself in to custody following a state police investigation into complaints against him.tha's right police officer tyron andrepont today was booked with five counts malfeasance in office for allegedly assaulting a teenager while he was a patient at opelousas general.tha's where we find news 1's cassie schirm cassie what can you tell us about this incident.

Well candace jasmine the chief of police told me andrepont was one of multiple officers called to the hospital here and according to this bill of information he is accused of beating an 18 year old on the head/face, neck/throat, right arm and right leg.

After talking about the situation with the police he told me he does not tolerate abuse of power in his department.

If yo're not going to do your job in a good manner and follow laws like yo're fired the people of opelousas to follow either get it right or get the hell out of this department two weeks after the alleged assault opelousas police chief martin mclendon says a staff member at the hospital brought their department a video of the incident."he came 3 obviously prevent did a video to me and my staff members it certainly was't the best thing i want to see so i immediately placed the officer on a minute straight of leave with pay pending a criminal investigation that i requested through the louisiana state police."there were multiple officers there when it happened and the teenager was sent to the hospital by his parents."i do't believe a crime was committed by the young person obviously there was concern that he was acting out of character if you will.

But he had not commit a crime and so there was no need at that time for us to make an arrest or anything.

And something went wrong."when he saw the video he immediatiok put the officer on administrative leave and started an investigation with the state police."i took an oath and 'm not gonna be here and allow an officer from any rank in this department to violate any policies or to abuse a person because of the color of their skin.

We have to take a position and i stayed in solidarity with the people who are saying enough is enough.."he says just one officer doing a bad thing just does't mean all are and his department is going to polish their badges and prove to the community the're her to help others.but he has one message to officer who are't following the law."you either need to shape up or ship out of here you do't need to be wearing a badge of any sort or wearing the uniform if yo're not going to your job."

Cassie 3 cassieandrepont will be in court tomorrow morning and the chief has also started an internal investigation today into the situation and as soon as we learn more information about this swe will keep you guys updated on the situation on air and online at kadn.com.
