Lost deer rescued out at sea off coast of south India

A spotted deer was found having swum out to sea in south India until it was rescued by fishermen on May 29.

The deer is believed to have come from the nearby Kodikkarai Wildlife Sanctuary in the Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu.

It is believed that the deer may have left the forest due to the ongoing dry season and then been chased by local dogs out to sea.

Luckily it was spotted a local fisherman, who was able to lead it back to shore by holding alongside one side of the boat.

When the boat reached shore the deer ran and jumped into the forest sanctuary again.

One of the fishermen commented: "The forest department officials have to take necessary action to prevent incidents like these."
