'Removed sword hanging over farmers': Cabinet approves economic package

The Union Cabinet announced approval of decisions for farmers taken under the economic package necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Union minister Prakash Javadekar said that three major decisions had secured the nod of the Cabinet.

These included the removal of grains, pulses, onions, potatoes etc from the Essential Commodities Act; freedom from Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees; and the right of farmers to sell produce as per prior contracts.
