Here at home---our local communities are standing with george floyd's family -- calling for racial equality.... we now go to 44news reporter jake thomas---who was in downtown evansville earlier today-- where hundreds attended a rally for justice.

Megan as you can see there hundreds of people around in the evansville area all asking for peace and change within our nation.

Nat sound of protest: it's a call for action---?we seen what happened on tuesday afternoon in the morning, and it was disheartening?

Hundreds of people taking to the streets of downtown evansville---- protesting in response to the death of george floyd.

Nat pop it time for us to make a change.

It time for us to come together.

It time for us to unite.

It doesn matter about the gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation.

It doesn matter about any of that.

At the end of the day, we all bleed red?

Dozens of signs waving in the air---many people chanting nat pop chant?i am black.

This is my life.

I can go to places without worrying about being killed.

I can go on a jog, i can use my cellphone, i can play with toy guns, i can ride my bike.

I can do anything without being worried about being shot and killed for the color of my skin, and that is why i am here?

Many demanding racial equality---with future generations in mind....?i have a son.

His name is elbon latrent ellis jr. as he gets older, as he gets older man, he not gonna be in my presence all the time.

I had to speak my voice.

Something had to be changed.

If i can be around my son, if i won be able to see him, i should not be afraid that he not going to come home to me?

City leaders also in attendance---?ya know, they say you can get better until you admit that you have a problem.

Wee got a problem.

Not just here but the world.

What you see going on in cities across the country is a manifestation of great anger and disgust??wee all in this together.

Wee all unified as one for one common purpose?

And ebon told 44 news that this won be the last time this group meets.

He hopes to make this an annual gathering that brings unity within the evansville community.
