Area Lacrosse Teams Receive Equipment Grants:

During its 2019-20 grant cycle, us lacrosse awarded 869 grants nationwide and two evansville clubs received grants for new equipment.

We were going to start this year our 10u team for our third and fourth graders and we thought it would be a great opportunity because of the introduction cost to the sport is high.

To be able to give parents an option where the club had equipment to be able to offer to the players.

Community organizations or clubs can submit their grant application and interest form.

So both of these organizations submitted their grant.

We've kind of been on hold just because the season did not take place.

But they will receive their equipment.

Many clubs here in the area saw their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, and grants like these can at least help clubs prepare for next season.

Going forward looking to next year we're super excited to get this information out to all the parents at the different schools.

The younger kids are going to be able to start at that 10u level.

To tell parents at the beginning we have this as an option that you don't have to have that initial outlay of money for buying equipment.

At the high school level, lacrosse is not a sanctioned sport in indiana, and the hope is that by growing lacrosse at the lower levels, that interest at all ages will begin to increase.

By providing that grant we can have people take part in our sport, give it a try and ultimately we hope to grow one of our membership organizations and at the high school level we're fortunate that even though it's not a sanctioned sport there in indiana we do have two high school leagues in the ihsla and the ingla that are membership organizations here at us lacrosse reporting in evansville, andrew garcia 44 news.
