Wake.

Campgrounds are among the businesses allowed to reopen today.fox 55's jeremy masukevich tells us how local campground employees expect covid-19 to impact attendance during their busiest season.

Nat kristie we had a two-day notice to switch from opening on sunday to opening on friday.

It's been a little bit of a struggle.

Kristie mahoney says the indian springs campground staff wasn't expecting governor holcomb to allow campsites to open as soon as today.sot kristie we were happy he said we could open on friday and it made a lot of other people happy.

Once you are excited about it, then you realize okay we have two less days to get fully ready.mahoney says they're happy to work overtime cleaning and preparing to welcome campers especially with memorial day weekend being one of their busiest.sot kristie typically memorial day weekend here we probably have close to 100 reservations.

So we are at about a quarter of that capacity.other campgrounds didn't feel the two days notice was enough time to welcome campers.nat kellie we are still moving forward with our may 24th opening date.

Until sunday, the only two guests at the johnny appleseed campground in fort wayne were the camp hosts.

Sot kellie because our camp hosts live and work there we decided we could go beyond sanitizing a couple times a day.kellie adkins says having employees who live on-site allows for deep cleaning of common areas each morning, as well as sanitizing those areas every other hour throughout the day.she fears the cancellation of many large events will decrease the number of campers this summer.

Sot kellie a lot of the demographic that we see at our campground is people coming to work.

With the shutdown of festivals and big coliseum events some of those people are canceling.only visitors with pop-up campers or rvs will be able to use the johnny appleseed campground until further notice, meaning no tents.adkins hopes the increase in people using trails and parks in fort wayne will roll over towards more campers once they are able to open at full capacity.sot kellie i hope that people continue to use them in a safe way and after we are out of the woods on this.

I hope people will have a new found love for their parks, campgrounds, and trail systems. in fort wayne, jeremy masukevich, fox 55 news
