Some portions of evansville's parks are set to open back up-- several days sooner than expected.

But the city's parks and rec department says --- it could be another week before all the city's tennis-- basketball and pickle balls courts are ready to go.

44news anchor brian miller has been looking into what you can expect -- his story is*new at 10.

To watch tennis players taking their swings-- live- and in person-- you'd have to go back time-- but not quite that far back-- just to pre- pandemic times-- when opportunities for outdoor sports-- were a but more plentiful--- and moms like these didn't have to settle for a stroll along the sidewalk-- and they could bring their kids to the playground instead-- "just this morning my oldest-- my four year old said mom when mickey's kingdom opens can we go -- so i think we are all going a little stir crazy but i do understand that we need to keep those germs at bay-- and keep our little ones safe-- as well as the adults safe."

But playgrounds like these are not allowed to open up according to the governor's updates on stage three openings-- what is opening-- basketball and tennis courts like this one--the city's parks and rec crews admit they have a lot of work ahead of them-- as they get these areas-- cleaned up and ready to go--and rims and nets are back up on hoops like this one city leaders say it could be next week before it's game on for all of the city's courts stand up "when the courts reopen things should look a bit different especially for sports like basketball-- known for close contact health experts recommend maintaining social distancing-- even while playing one of the sports indiana is famous for."

So while sports enthusiasts will soon get-- their shot-- to get back on the court for playgrounds-- it's game off-- for now-- the governor has not yet said when the time out for slides and swing- sets will expire "(1:48-2:02) "i do feel like there's going to be people that just jump right back into it and not have the precautions and i think you still have to be a little cautious stay your distance if you feel comfortable, wear a mask."

Simple motherly advice that could help defeat covid-19 and allow parents and kids to get back on the playground-- sooner--rather than later.
