A University of Alabama in Huntsville professor is partnering up with Hewlett Packard Enterprise, using what's called a supercomputer, to fight against coronavirus.

Counties.

Thank you for joining us.

University of alabama and huntsville professor is partnering with hewlett-packard enterprise using a super computer in the fight against coronavirus.

We are joined outside the campus after hearing from that professor.

Stephen?

>> dr. jerome is a biological sciences professor here at uah.

He will be utilizing a super computer to identify chemicals that can attack the coronavirus.

Specifically he'll be looking for natural products, chemicals that come from plants, fungi, or animals.

That technology being use sd the hewlett-packard gray sentinel.

The computer can compute data as fast as the earth's entire population doing 20,000 calculations every second.

Very powerful technology.

The computer will also be able to predict if the chemical can block proteins that coronavirus needs to infect and replicate cells.

>> we can find a molecule, these are complicated, well enough that people can be handled in the hospital without risk of dying.

So here again, there is a large diversity of potential effects.

>> dr. boudre normally says this process takes years to do but he expects it to be a little faster, maybe months even because of how important it is and the emphasis on coronavirus, trying to find anything that can help.
