FORT WAYNE BALLET 'SOCIAL DANCES' THROUGH CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

COVID-19 STOPPED FORT WAYNE BALLET DANCERS FROM MEETING IN THEIR STUDIO, BUT IT HASN’T KEPT THEM OFF THEIR TOES.

These ballerinas are getting extra creative during covid-19.

Doing whatever it takes to keep them on their toes, even if they can't join in the studio.

Fox 55's mallory beard caught up with some of fort wayne ballet's dancers to see how they're "social dancing" through the pandemic.

Covid-19 stopped fort wayne ballet dancers from meeting in their studio.

But it hasn't kept them off their toes.

Karen gibbons-brown//fort wayne ballet artistic director "and we haven't had to stop sharing it because of this pandemic.

We've been able to share our passion.

And that's...that's a gift."

The ballet company switched to online classes six times a week.

Karen gibbons- brown//fort wayne ballet artistic director "it's wonderful to see them on the zoom platform, but the most difficult part of this is not being able to see them regularly and communicate in the immediate moment."

But now the professional dancers can practice social distancing while "social dancing" from anywhere.

Yes.

Anywhere.

Amber bailey//fort wayne ballet company dancer :38-1:01 "we've been cooking in our kitchen in our pointe shoes and tutus and trying to come up with fun videos for that.

And cleaning our cars and figuring out videos of us around the house cleaning and such.

And we've kind of found ways to incorporate dance into the daily routine."

Dancing through the pandemic helps ballerinas stick together even if they're far apart.

Jillian lee// fort wayne ballet company dancer 1:05-1:19 "i think we've been really lucky because we have been able to keep dancing, and maybe we're not in our space and we're not moving as much as normal, but we're able to see our co-workers everyday and still do what we love.

It might be in your kitchen, but you're still able to enjoy yourself."

And they encourage you to find your creative edge too.

Amber bailey//fort wayne ballet company dancer 1:22-1:38 "and so i think whatever you can find that keeps you going, whether that's finding a new hobby or kind of exploring something new that you haven't necessarily had time to do before...i think those are some of the things that can come out of this period as a positive."
