Albert Lea firefighters use Zoom for training

First responders are turning to technology to keep themselves safe during the pandemic.

From 10 ?m to 2 ?m./// fire responders across the nation are having to adjust to the coronavirus pandemic... from wearing extra protective gear to changing how they train.

Now they are adding zoom training to the list.

The albert lea fire rescue team met for training... but not at the station like they normally do.

Instead they met via zoom.

"it kind of feels like the brady bunch when you are on there."

It's a video chat platform that several companies and teams are using to stay in compliance with social distancing.

Deputy fire chief jeff laskowske says his department uses a lot of different resources and tools to get their job done.

He admits he didn't think video conferencing would play such a vital role for his department since firefighting is hand?on.

He's now finding the use of technology is elevating their training.

"we actually did our ropes and knots training where they had to video themselves and and submit that video back into me proving that they were confident in tieing the different knots its unique how some of them did some of the different videos things like that ... that i've never seen before so its open up the door a lot for us."
