State paves the way for high school graduates, without in-person ceremonies

No in-person ceremonies will be held, but some districts are planning other ways to honor seniors.

High school graduation is right around the corner.

And while seniors can see the light at the end of the tunnel- kezi 9 news reporter chris lueneburg shows us the big adjustments they'll be making.

"i'm a little upset.

I was in my final season of la crosse.

Sheldon high senior noah davis says he was looking forward to his last term.

"i'm going to think back on this in ten years and say, 'dang.'

For 4-j students, distance learning begins monday... but davis says the online experience won't replace the lost memories.

"prom's probably the biggest thing for me.

I was looking forward to going to that, my second prom.

Graduation's a big one.

Bummed i can't walk, wear the cap and gown."

The state says seniors will be graded on a pass fail basis-- a's- through d's pass... f's have til the end of august to improve.

"schools statewide-- including in corvallis, junction city and right here at thurston high school in springfield-- will be turning on their stadium lights on designated nights-- as a small but meaningful recognition of their seniors."

On fridays thurston stadium will be lit up for 20 minutes at 8:20-- thats 20:20 in military time.

"this little symbol allows us to as a community acknowledge the work they put in to get to this point."

Davis and his peers say that though the future is uncertain... their achievement won't go unnoticed.

"if there was anything i want to share with the class of 2020: you're not alone."

"just be grateful we had this experience at all, because the memories will be there forever."

"this will be remembered for a very long time and the class of 2020 will be part of that."

A bittersweet finish to a lifetime of education.
