FWCS return date from COVID-19 extended break concerns some parents

The projected May 1 return date for Fort Wayne Community Schools makes some parents concerned about their children's curriculum upkeep.

Fort wayne community schools won't be back in session until may first, as of now.

But that seems a little late for some parents eager for their students to stay on track with school work.

Fox 55's mallory beard let's us in on how some parents are feeling about the distant return date.

Fort wayne community school students aren't returning until may at the earliest.

And that sounds crazy to some parents.

In the meantime, fwcs doing it's best to come up with a curriculum plan outside e- learning.fort wayne community schools isn't implementing e- learning because all students don't have access to computers or wifi.

But they're suggesting other options for keeping students on track.

Krista stockman "so it's even things like reading a book with your child, having your child read a book, writing letters, those kinds of things that they can do without access to technology."

Tomorrow, fwcs will also provide elementary math books at each elementary school site between 10:30 and 1:30.

The same time breakfast and lunches will be served to students.krista "that is something that we're giving to our families so they can continue working with their kids at home.

It goes along with our curriculum so they can keep pace and find some activities to do and still work on math."fwcs staff says they empathize with the parents and students during this unexpected shift in the school year.
