About two weeks ago, visitations at the oneida county jail were temporarily suspended t to keep staff and inmates safe in response to the cororonavirus pandemic.
But -- there e is still a way for inmates to see their r family members aaand loved ones.
It's called video visitation.
It's very similar to skype or facetime.e.
It's the way most people arere communicating right now because of social distancing... even us here at wktvtv.v.
Although this video system is t t the only option for inmates until furtrther notice, sheriff rob maciol tetells us it's not something new.
"we actually had video visitation prior to the corona issue that's going on now and it was vers it something new.
"we actually had video visitation prior to the corona issue that's going on now and it was very populular and very much used for families out of the area, but again we were able to utilize that technology because it's already been in place for quiuite somete at the sheriff's office so that families would stillll be e abl visit their family members oror significant others while they are incarcecerated at our correctional facility."
