Douglas County workers helping deliver meals with Senior Services

The employees come from Douglas County Public Works, Fairgrounds, and Assessor’s Office.

Handful of douglas county employees who have been told to stay home... are now helping seniors.

Kezi 9 news reporter evita garza shows us why they're so thrilled to be giving back.

But for the next few weeks& serving meals to seniors will be her normal.?we dish that up into the individual trays and bowls so it can be packaged?

She just one of 37 county employees who were temporarily reassigned to douglas county senior services.

Other departments diverting staff include public works and the assessor office.

Since these employees can work in their office, county officials wanted to utilize them in a department that desperately needed it.?we get to meet some of our co-workers if you will.

00:47 evita:?regular senior center staff tell me they thought it was going to be a difficult transition for the county employees, but they say theye surprised at how quick of learners they are?

Sandy williams says they expect to serve 300-500 meals a day.

And senior services is currently running a curbside meal pick up at seven senior centers across douglas county.

Theye also delivering the meals to seniorshomes.

She says she greatful for the extra help&and their enthusiasm.

Right now, meals are served every tuesday, thurday and friday.

County officials are unsure how long their reassigned employees will be helping out&?it time for us to be able to give back and help those people too?

But mayberry says shel be there as long as they need her.
