Some volunteers in sacramento, however, are doing what they can to make sure they stay protected.

Sewing machine sound with a needle and thread... vickie fu, a pharmacist, and her mother... are sewing masks for doctors and nurses all across northern california.

Fu's 84-year-old mother was a seamstress for most of her life.

The two got the idea to make the masks on facebook.

In a time when it often feels like our world is unraveling, the two say this is their small way to help sew us back together.

"if you were on the front lines taking care of somebody that was coughing and just can't breath and dying, wouldn't you want some protection?

So you can continue to either help another person or protect yourself?"
