Hormel helps puppies find homes

Four puppies are still in need of homes.

Armory parking new on daybreak the mower county humane society is receiving a helping hand... or paw from hormel foods.

Brooke, the shelter recently took in a dog named chili who ended up having 6 puppies shortly after.

When hormel found out her name was chili á they knew they wanted to help out.

I was at the animal shelter when hormel surprised them... take a look.

"our ability to make a donation as a brand is really just a small way that we want to be able to give back to the community and recognize that work."

Employees with hormel foods volunteer at the mower county humane society quite often.

But they're going the extra mile to help the shelter by covering the adoption fees for all six of chili's puppies and donating one thousand dollars.

(nat applauding) the shelter is a nonáprofit, so all of the money or supplies they receive is from the community and donations like the one from hormel.

Volunteer barry rush says they're lucky to be able to have enough funds to keep the shelter running.

As for the generous donation from hormel á rush says they already have an idea in mind of how they'll spend the money.

"our mission is not only to take in stray dogs and get them adopted out properly, but we also have in our mission statement it says we're to support spay and neuter programs. the shelter currently has 30 dogs and over 100 cats looking for their forever homes.

Baskin realizes this donation from hormel will help the shelter immensely, but he also says it won't stop there.

"animal shelters like the mower county humane society need help day in and day out.

So we're honored to be able to give back today and at the same time, we know that it doesn't stop today."

Chili and two of the puppies are already spoken for, but the other four are still needing homes.

And it probably won't take very long for them to be adopted.
