Midmorning With Aundrea - February 26, 2020 (Part 2)
(Part 2 of 2) We meet a man famed for his guitar straps!

An indiana couple has a craft that is showing up on the shoulders of some of music's biggest stars.

Mike sullivan explains.

"when you'r embroidering on leather you donút get too many shots."

But how many do you really need... "we can have i done in 45 minutes."

...to make a career?

"but it's like an piece of equipment you use for a long time.

It just kinda comes natural to you."

And custom guitar straps... "some of th straps that we made for jimmy buffett and for keith urban."

Come natural to terry misner and his wife dena.

"began in the '80 with camera straps."

Rekindling in '99.

"we said, w thought, well let's bring the straps back.

We've got the internet."

Only this time with a caveat: they be made for guitars... "if you find a piec grab it."

Elephant...sting ray...alligator... "and i may neve see it again."

Leather became a fascination, as star power became their clientele.

"this is one i use on the last strap we made for gary clark jr. it's like telling your life's story in 2 minutes.

It's like there's so many circumstances and things happen."

Jimmy buffet has been using his straps since the early 2000s.

Keith urban...around the same time.

"avril lavine, travi trite.

Miranda signed one for us here."

His work, literally, riding on the shoulders of idols.

"the bigger the are, the more isolated they are from, you know, people like us."

His straps can be elaborate, specific, or sentimental.

"and what i do is i'l roll the edge."

Each a piece of the artistús soul.

"what one come immediately to mind is rickey medlocke lynyrd skynyrd."

The guitarist asking terry to tap into his native american roots with his designs, while terryús daughter fields much different questions.

"she said, you ca make a living doing that?

I told her, i said, 'well, you should've said yeah, but not a very good one.'" with a wall of signatures, thatús hard to believe.

"they go, 'are yo retired yet?'

Retired from what???"

Sounds like a cheeseburger in paradise to me.

David ayres played hockey -but that was years ago.

Now, he is the manager of operations at an ice rink.

He even drove the zamboni - the machine that smooths out the ice.

But over the weekend, he was called upon to suit up.

Like a scene from a movie, ayres was left the stands and played as the emergency goalie for the carolina hurricanes.

David begnaud has more.

Can you imagine this view?

Talk about a dream come true.

"and here he come #90" ...david ayres gliding onto the ice as he entered his first ever n-h-l game.

"look at what th guys did to go out and welcome him onto the ice.

You can only imagine what his nerves are like right now" "ayres out to pla it, he'll move it..."

For the next 28 minutes the 42 year old skated his way into hockey history... "what a save!

...allowing two goals but stopping eight shots for the most improbable of victories.

"three second left, here's clifford, stopped by david ayres!

The carolina hurricanes surround him and defeat the toronto maple leafs!"

"it's unreal, har to put into words right now to be honest."

// "i we through a kidney transplant 15 years ago.

I never thought i was going to play hockey again at that moment."

Ayres has spent the last eight years as a ápracticeá goalie with the toronto maple leafs and their minor league team...but during the day the ontario native works as an operations manager at an athletic center.

Now he's the áoldestá goalie to ever win his n-h-l debut.

His wife sarah called hockey dave's one true love.

"it is surreal, lik there's no better feeling.

I'm more proud of him for everything he's accomplished, nhl or not // he's that guy that won't ever give up and who will do everything he can to better himself."

Ayres instantly became a legend in the carolina hurricanes family...the team is now selling t- shirts bearing his name.

But as for who might play him in a miracle on ice remake?

" who knows?

Someone who can stop a puck maybe " begnaud tag: saturday night north carolina governor roy cooper tweeted, "i'm ready to mak emergency goaltender and zamboni driver david ayres an honorary north carolina citizen after courageous @canes win."

Fo his performance ayres received 500 dollars - that's what the emergency goalie contract called for - and got to keep his jersey.
