Mormon Family Members Die in Highway Attack in Mexico.

At least three women and six children were killed in the Monday attack.

Six other children were injured.

The family was attacked as they traveled by vehicle between the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Sonora.

.

Mexican officials say that the victims were members of the LeBaron family, a group that split from the Church of Latter Day Saints in the early 1900s.

.

The group has been living in Mexico since the split, reportedly with dual U.S. and Mexican citizenship.

Saying that the family was caught in the crossfire of warring drug cartels, President Donald Trump tweeted in response to the attack.

If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these monsters, the United States stands ready, willing & able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively ... the cartels have become so large and powerful that you sometimes need an army to defeat an army!, President Trump, Twitter.

This is the time for Mexico, with the help of the United States, to wage WAR on the drug cartels and wipe them off the face of the earth.

We merely await a call from your great new president!, President Trump, Twitter.

Mexican authorities have not released details of the attack.

They continue to investigate
