British Prime Minister Boris Johnson denied Monday (September 30) he inappropriately touched a female journalist 20 years ago.

Charlotte Edwardes wrote in The Sunday Times that Johnson groped her at a lunch.

Johnson said the allegations were not overshadowing his Conservative Party's annual conference, which opened at the weekend.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, BORIS JOHNSON, SAYING: "No and I think what the public want to hear is about what we're doing to level up and unite the country.

And the announcements we're making today, the announcements that Sajid Javid, the chancellor, is going to be making are all about infrastructure, fantastic roads programme, 25 billion going into the A66, the M68, 46, loads of roads investments around the country." "[JOURNALIST] Are you suggesting - you say it didn't happen - that she made it up?" "Look, I'm just saying what I've said and I think that what the public want to hear is what we're doing for them and for the country and for investment in ways of uniting the country." As Boris Johnson prepares to lead the United Kingdom out of the European Union on October 31 his past relations with several women are coming under scrutiny.

The prime minister's already been referred to Britain's police watchdog for potential investigation.

That's over allegations of misconduct involving the U.S. businesswoman Jennifer Arcuri while he was mayor of London.
