London Fashion Week faces Brexit reality

These fashionistas are out in force for London Fashion Week.

But behind the outrageous, colorful and flamboyant outfits, it's not just style on people's minds.

Many of the Autumn Winter collections being presented here will hit shelves after March 29.

...When Britain is scheduled to leave the European Union.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) REUTERS ENTERTAINMENT REPORTER, JAYSON MANSARAY, SAYING: "The fashion industry contributed over $41 billion to the British economy in 2017 and a huge part of its business is trade with the EU.

As the Brexit date draws closer, and the serious likelihood of a no deal scenario looms, having to renegotiate trading deals with the bloc isn't looking like a very fashionable choice." (SOUNDBITE) (English) CHIEF EXECUTIVE, BRITISH FASHION COUNCIL, CAROLINE RUSH, SAYING: "But of course, is that longer term is that to ensure that we have access to talent, to think about what those tariffs look like , to think about the reciprocal arrangements around VAT so rather than negotiating with the EU or putting one form in you've got 27 member states to negotiate reciprocal agreements with." But it's not all doom and gloom, the British Fashion Council says London, and indeed Britain, are still open for business.
