Ever wonder about your family tree?

Who were your ancestors?

And how do you start tracking them down?

Here's rick diaz with today's con mi gente.

Harlingen it's a subject that's been around forever.

Always drawing a conversation.

Even today, it's a subject that has sparked a renewed interest.

Rgv hispanic genealogy society "i think right now people are very interested in knowing where they came from.

Who their ancestors were.

What is their country of origin."

It's an exhibit currently at the harlingen arts and heritage museum where families have contributed their photographs, informaton and their family trees.

Nats mary "some of these trees were created before the internet.

And so people are using both traditional methods and the internet and d-n-a too, to find out who their relatives were."

Nats ofelia "the best way to start genealogy is, of course, to start with yourself."

It's a process where you work backwards.

First listing you and your siblings, then your parents, then your grandparents, on both sides.

So, yes, it's very difficult but it's so exciting and so fascinating.

And it's addictive."

"the internet has made it easier.

There are a lot of forms you can download but still, you have to do the majority of the work."

And with doing all that research you could find some nice surprises.

We have so many twins in the family.

So many people that were born on new year's eve, halloween."

Nats bertha "i've been doing genealogy since 1980."

Once you get into it, they say, it's hard to stop.

And also we're related to the king, king ferdinand the catholic."

Nats bertha "this is my grandpa, teodoro lucio and this is my grandmother, maria antonia lopez."

It's a thrill when you can trace your family tree.

Even though sometimes it may not be what you expected.

Ofelia olsen "i was surprised that one of my great, great uncles was shot in the back."

It's all part of the adventure of genealogy.
