Beach incident 'like a scene from Jaws' in West Country waters left nearly 1,000 people injured

On a hot sunny day at the height of the summer tourist season, on Sunday 10 August 1998, a mass panic erupted on the south Devon coast in what became known as 'The Day the Sea Turned Red in Devon'.
