A petrol crisis may only be temporary, but the war on the car is already underway

Whingeing about a petrol shortage seems a rather spoilt, First World complaint — aren’t there many greater afflictions affecting humanity? But, as I passed long queues of vehicles snaking around roads in the south-east of England in recent days, I wondered if this was a harbinger of things to come.
