Police are investigating a serious assault on a man in Plymouth in the early hours of this morning [11 July].

Officers and paramedics were called at 00.45am after a man was located seriously injured behind Gossip in Bilbury Street.

He had sustained a number of stab wounds after being assaulted by a group of men.

The 42-year-old man from Plymouth was treated at the scene and taken to Derriford Hospital.

His injuries are described as life-threatening and he remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Two men, one aged 27 and from Plympton and the other aged 30 from Plymouth, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault GBH. The 27-year-old has been released without charge and the 30-year-old remains in custody at this time

A group of males ran from the scene and got into a vehicle in Southside Street. The vehicle was located in Saltash a short time later.

A 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy from Saltash was arrested on suspicion of assault GBH with intent.

An 18-year-old from Saltash was arrested on suspicion of assault GBH with intent, drink driving, possession of a Class A drug.

Four males remain in custody at this time.

A scene guard in Bilbury Street has now been removed.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and asking for anyone with information to contact them via 101@dc.police.uk or by telephone on 101, quoting crime reference CR/055659/20.
