Devon police officers, staff and public celebrated at awards ceremony

 

On Tuesday 28^th January 2020, Devon & Cornwall Police held an award ceremony celebrating the achievements of police officers, staff and members of the public across Devon.  
Police officers, members of staff, PCSOs and citizens were recognised for their outstanding work, bravery, professionalism and selfless actions relating to incidents that had taken place across Devon in the past 12 months.

The awards were presented by Chief Superintendent Jim Gale and Superintendent Antony Hart.

*SUPERINTENDENT’S TEAM CERTIFICATE           *

PC 11840 Jonathan Stephens and PC 17272 Jordan Camsey

For demonstrating selflessness and courage when rescuing a suicidal female from the cliff edge at Orcombe Point in Exmouth on 29^th May 2019


PC 17476 Alston Reece and PCSO 30543 Kevin Macleod

For showing extraordinary bravery and conduct saving a suicidal man’s life at Orcombe Point, Exmouth on 10^th June 2019.


Guy Russell, Maddie Todd, Peter Richardson, Guy Bennett, Martin Barnard, Leigh Dean, Matt Smith and Richard Baker

For saving the life of an international student in cardiac arrest on Sidmouth Beach on 28^th June 2019.  All eight people worked together to stabilise the student and get him medical help.  He made a full recovery.


*SUPERINTENDENT’S CERTIFICATE*

DC 14829 Roger Bolt – for professionalism and investigation skills in dealing with an armed perpetrator who had threatened children with an AK-47 assault rifle. DC Bolt worked with the community, the children and CPS among others to secure a conviction and sentence of 4 and half years in prison.

PSI 55838 Karen Lyne – for professionalism and support to a vulnerable witness, working sensitively and tirelessly to provide an exceptional level of support and reassurance, encouraging and enabling him to attend court to give evidence, which led to the conviction and imprisonment of the perpetrator.

PC 15270 Jennifer Pinnuck – for conduct and objectivity in dealing with a violent offender involved in county lines class A drug supply.  PC Pinnuck detained the male and preserved key evidence which led to conviction.

PC 17223 Luke Yabsley – for outstanding conduct in dealing with a distressed, intoxicated male in danger of falling from a bridge.  PC Yabsley managed to gain the confidence of the male and talk him away from the edge of the bridge to safety.

PC 13743 Mike Kay (RETIRED) – outstanding work contributing to an investigation by compiling and outstanding compilation of CCTV evidence fundamental in securing guilty pleas for affray and assault from the group in question.

In July 2018, the 3rd oldest Synagogue in the country was the victim of an arson attack here in Exeter.  The person responsible undertook reconnaissance visits before smashing a rear window, pouring in petrol, and then setting it alight. Within minutes a 51-year old local male was arrested, and the subsequent investigation revealed extreme far-right, white supremacist and anti-Semitic motivation. In July 2019 he was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order and 10 year terrorist reporting order.

PC 16372 Sarah Tong – outstanding commitment to the policing of Exeter by dealing with many challenging situations, including re-entering the fray with no thought for her own safety and being assaulted in the execution of her duty. Sarah has shown exceptional tenacity and resilience in keeping the people of Exeter safe
