Andy Bell Confirms New EP Trilogy, Plus Compilation
The project is called Ever Decreasing Circles...
Ride guitarist *Andy Bell* has confirmed plans for a trilogy of solo EPs, and a compilation.
The series is labelled Ever Decreasing Circles, and it kicks off on April 9th with six track 12 inch vinyl EP 'The Indica Gallery'.
Named in honour of the gallery where John Lennon met Yoko Ono, there's a sense of cosmic alignment to this announce - today (February 17th) is Yoko's birthday.
The EP features five songs from Andy's debut album 'The View From Halfway Down' remixed by Pye Corner Audio, augmented by a remix from Andy's GLOK alter ego.
The second EP 'See My Friends' follows on May 14th, available on 10 inch vinyl - again, 'Plastic Bag' and 'The Commune' will be remixed by Pye Corner Audio.
The EP trilogy closes on June 11th with 'All On Your', a four track seven inch of acoustic radio sessions versions.
Finally, you can expect a 15 track CD 'Another View' collating everything from those EPs.
Andy explains...
“Each release in the series will be smaller in size than the last, so we start with a 12”, then a 10”, a 7” and CD so that was the reason for the name ‘Ever Decreasing Circles’, a figurative and fond nod to the ’80s Richard Briers sitcom. I like the idea that the EPs represent fainter and fainter echoes of 'The View From Halfway Down' and remind me of water splashes reducing in size on a pond, much like the shots in the sitcom's opening titles! Pretentious, moi?”
“Some of my acoustic session tracks complete the vinyl trio, as the 'All On You' EP. Last year I was invited to record sessions for several radio stations – one of the only ways I could promote the album as we were heading into lockdown two when the record came out. XS Manchester asked if could record a cover of a song by a Manchester artist, so I chose ‘Perfume’ by Paris Angels as it’s a song I’ve always loved since it's release in 1990.”
“When it came to the CD, we luckily had room to include everything. I think about it as a kind of 'Hatful Of Hollow' in that it collects session versions of debut album tracks, along with previously single only tracks and brand new versions. The title, 'Another View', is a nod to The Velvet Underground’s odds and sods collection.”
