Stock market today: Asian shares rise, cheered by last week's tech rally on Wall Street

Asian shares are higher amid optimism over the rally that ended the week on Wall Street, although eyes are on the Federal Reserve policy meeting set for later this week. Benchmarks rose in early Monday trading in Sydney, Seoul, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Trading was closed in Tokyo for a Japanese national holiday, Showa Day. Japan has a series of holidays coming up known as Golden Week, through Monday. Concerns are lingering about the recent drop of the Japanese yen against the dollar. The S&P 500 rose 1%, the Dow Jones added 0.4%, and the Nasdaq gained 2% on Friday.
