Shubhanshu Shukla is a group captain and test pilot with the Indian Air Force (IAF) and gaganyatri (astronaut) with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). As of July 2025, he is serving as the mission pilot for Axiom Mission 4, a privately organised mission to the International Space Station (ISS). Shukla is the first ISRO astronaut to visit the ISS and the second Indian to travel to space, following Rakesh Sharma's mission in 1984. The cost of the seat allotted to him is estimated to be in the mid-$60-million range, paid by the Indian government in 2025.
