Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take “immediate” steps to topple the Palestinian Authority (PA).
In a fiery statement, Ben Gvir said this was the only suitable response to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s reported plan to unilaterally declare a Palestinian state during the UN General Assembly in September.
He labeled Abbas a “terrorist” and the PA a “terror authority,” demanding its dismantling without delay.
His comments follow reports from Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed that Abbas is preparing a bold diplomatic move as several nations prepare to recognize Palestinian statehood during the UN gathering in New York.
The push comes amid escalating tensions in the region, as far-right Israeli leaders push for aggressive measures against Palestinian political leadership.
Netanyahu has yet to respond publicly, but the call adds pressure on Israel’s cabinet to take a definitive stance ahead of the high-profile international event.
