French President Emmanuel Macron has delivered a stark assessment of the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war, stating bluntly that Ukraine cannot retake territories already lost to Russia.
Acknowledging that even Ukrainian authorities are aware of this, Macron emphasized the need for a united international effort to support Ukraine—without escalating into World War III.
Calling for peace, he said Ukraine must be positioned strongly for negotiations and confirmed that Ukraine will not be joining NATO.
Instead, Macron proposed a deployment of reassurance forces by willing allies, stationed far from the frontlines.
The comments come ahead of planned peace talks in Istanbul, which remain deadlocked over Ukraine’s refusal to give up its territorial claims, including Crimea.
