Despite its similarities with the Leopard 1 and Leopard 1A3, the vehicles differed significantly, especially in the turret.
The first trials of the tank were conducted in 1977, but the vehicle never saw mass production.
After the release of the more advanced Leopard 2 in 1978, the Lion was rendered obsolete.
Nevertheless, it was considered a milestone vehicle that provided immense experience and expertise in the creation of other armored vehicles.
