I initiated, designed and raised the funds for the original mural back in 1997 and started a arts group to undertake the painting in 1998, this idea came about when I lived just around the corner on Waverly road in the early 1990s, every time I was there at the roundabout there were tourist looking lost holding maps in their hands pointing in every direction.
This is when I thought that big empty blank wall needs a map painted onto it.
Not only as a historical and modern map of reference of our most celebrated characters and venues but also an informative compass point for places of interest, entertainment, local shops, businesses, and residents personal stories.
