Cocaine inside White House leads to evacuations and temporary lockdown | Oneindia News

The White House was temporarily closed on Sunday evening for a while after Secret Service agents discovered a small quantity of white powder substance suspected to be co-caine inside a work area in the West Wing.

The Secret Service said that the White House was temporarily closed to allow members of law enforcement agencies to investigate the substance and the District of Columbia fire department had assisted in evaluating the substance.

The fire department "quickly determined the item to be non-hazardous" after an initial evaluation.

Members of the Uniformed Division of the Secret Service had discovered the substance during their routine rounds in the building.

Although several reports claim that the white powder in question was found in the West Wing, there are a few reports which claim that the drug was found in a reference library, in an area accessible to tour groups, not in any particular West Wing office.

Members of the public who tour the White House usually are only allowed to visit the East Wing and Residence.

The West Wing in the White House is an area attached to the executive mansion where the President lives and includes the Oval Office, cabinet room, and press area, along with offices and workspace for the president's advisers and staffs.
