Interview 435 with Serj Avakian

Hello!

This is Serj Avakian, I am 38 years old, born in Tbilisi Georgia, moved to GREECE at the age of 7 lived there for 10 years, My father has a very bad eyesight so my mother worked 3 jobs to support the family, me and my brother were to young to work but I started work from the age of 14.

In 2002 we moved to Ukraine with the family to Ukraine my mother was able to build her dream business, a restaurant, me and my brother were old enough now so we worked day and night to make it the most successful restaurant in town, and have been living here ever since.

I Graduated from the Sumy state University in 2008 and started work at a drilling company for three years, my brother and mother were in charge of the restaurant, after that in around 2015 I started doing what I love doing best, being an actor, I did 3 jobs while studying at the University, I studied in the humanitarian faculty, translation branch, so it was easy for me to only attend classes, because back in Greece I took English courses, which helped me very much in the University.

After three years in the drilling Industry, an Italian drilling industry, I moved to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine and worked as an English tutor.

I worked there for about 6 years and since I gained the trust of my students and the management I was able to reschedule some of my classes to run for auditions and filming and then run back for the classes, i did that for 6 years my day started at 5 am, and finished at around 11 pm.

I got my first part through a lie, in my acting bio I had mentioned that i spoke several languages, including Italian, because when I worked at the drilling company I would study Italian by just listening them and take notes.

I was asked by the casting director if I spoke French, I didn't, but I said yes I do, I took the script, sent it to a friend who spoke French he recorded it I listened, learnt it and sent the self tape, I got the part.

And the rest is history, 3 major movies, and even more video game projects for worldwide release.

The co vid and the war in Ukraine froze everything.

But I am keeping my head up.
